Larger busts rejoice in Clo’s Fortuna Chemise

A bra ad that tickled ME pink!

Ari here… feeling rested, refreshed, and ready to take on the last full week before Christmas! This weekend I had a mini-getaway at a former boss and dear friend’s house in Chelsea. Though it was only a quick train ride away from Boston, I felt transported to bygone eras and faraway places at Diane’s home. It is filled with beautiful antiques, treasures from world travels, handcrafted quilts, one-of-a-kind headpieces from Diane’s days as a milliner, and retro treasures… like this incredible Maidenform ad!
When was the last time you saw a lingerie ad as fabulous as this? Love it!!! (though am more interested in the pants than the bra – which was definitely not the reaction the advertisers wanted…) A quick Google search reveals that this advertisement was featured in Woman’s Day magazine in October 1962. So much has changed in 50 years! As we all know, sex sells… which is why most lingerie ads tend to feature models wearing nothing but their lingerie and striking seductive poses. I think it’s time to bring more creativity and quirkiness back into the world of lingerie advertising. Word to lingerie designers: hire Don Draper! Or preferably, Peggy Olsen. That girl’s got talent. And get some elephants in the photo shoots… Who doesn’t look great next to an elephant? We could all be lingerie models!!!

The fine print on the vintage Maidenform ad boasts that the “hug and hold band” will prevent the bra from “riding up” – hopefully if you’ve been sized recently, your bras aren’t riding up at all… but if you like a longline bra for extra support or for the retro look, check out these styles from Freya and Josie Natori as well… Hopefully one of them will tickle you pink!!!
Oh and how could I forget the most important part of my visit to Diane’s house? Finally meeting her adorable dog Josephine, a fifteen-year-old daschund with the joyful spirit of a puppy! Hope this blast from the past and Josie’s sweet face make your Monday morning cheery!

All fall I have been crazy about pretty lacy undergarments in neutral colors. But around the holidays I find myself gravitating toward darker and sexier pieces. Rejuvinating on Vinalhaven
It was a wild summer here at Forty Winks.
Along with our day-to-day duties, there was an engagement (Rachel) , a house purchase (Meredith), buying trips to NYC, weddings, babies, birthdays, family reunions…you name it, this Summer brought it.
And while these happenings were happy, exciting and GOOD, a little bit of exhaustion crept in and it become glaringly obvious that we needed a real, live weekend away.
So we packed up two cute boys, two even cuter dogs, a bunch of food/beer/wine and headed for Vinalhaven, ME.
With absolutely no cell phone service (iPhone, you can’t haunt us here!) and Atlantic on all sides (yeah, it’s an island) Meredith and I were actually able to relax. One morning I read on the deck for two hours. TWO HOURS!
Never without lingerie on our brains, we started comparing the colors we were finding on our walks along the gorgeous shoreline with some of the pieces at Forty Winks right now. Meredith, our resident photographer, was able to beautifully capture the subtle similarities between the colors and textures of the Maine coast with the stunning lingerie on our racks for Fall.
