Africa!
As some of you may have noticed, I wasn’t at Forty Winks for most of February. Since we opened last April, neither Rachel nor myself have taken any vacations, besides going to NYC for buying shows….which is not exactly a vacation. So for the first weeks of February I finally got away, and far away. Here are some pictures from our trip to South Africa and Botswana! Rachel, thank you for holding down the Winks while I was gone! You are the best business partner and friend. xo

One of our many mishaps/adventures! This was when we drove off the road and got stuck for 3 hours. Yup, believe it or not there is a road under that 2 feet of water. The white truck behind our vehicle was stuck there for 4 1/2 days, so 3 hours didn’t seem that bad.
Here is the “airport.” A term used loosely in the bush in Botswana. It’s literally a bumpy dirt patch just long enough for the light aircraft to take off. The impala were just hanging out on “runway” before our plane came. Better than lions… or elephants, I guess.

Elephant butts walking away. This is a good thing. They are really cute until they are 10 feet from your car trumpeting and mock charging you. Then, not so much.
A beautiful lion, lioness and their cub. They didn’t seem to mind us one bit, even though we were about 20 feet away. Thank god!
Two giraffe sharing a special moment… or just an itch. Either way they were so cute. Very elegant animals.

Bright and early this morning, my dear friend and business partner Rachel was elected to serve on the the Executive Board of the Harvard Square Business Association. For the next three years, she’ll be hauling herself out of bed on the 1st Friday of each month to give her opinion on how to support and grow Harvard Square. You’ll see me there if they give us free food. Kidding. Congratulations RW!
