Boutique Week! October 24th-31st!
We love parties here at Forty Winks, so when the Boutique Week ladies asked us to be a part of the upcoming festivities we happily jumped on board. To participate in BW we have to offer 25% off at least half of our merchandise. This merch is from the current season and includes bras, undies, chemises, and nighties. Your role in all of this is to go to www.boutiqueweek.net and sign up to receive the Boutique Week code which will give you the discount, not only at Forty Winks but at many other boutiques in the Boston area.
Fun right!?
It’s a pretty good deal for you, our dear customers, so come visit us and save some money!

Welcoming Mimi Holliday!
Opening the first box from a new designer is always exciting around here (it’s the little things right?) and Forty Winks is abuzz with the arrival of eagerly anticipated Mimi Holliday.
Seeing as how this set fits beautifully, is actually comfortable, and manages to be H-O-T all at once, it’s already found its way into both of our lingerie drawers. Sometimes we just can’t hold ourselves back.
We’re expecting another order next week. It’s too good.
The Etoile de Nuit bra ($80) and thong ($56) in navy silk. Our first foray into the loveliness that is Mimi Holliday.

Help! Gifts for the brides in your life.
These days, it seems like there’s a new engagement on a daily basis with most of my friends in relationships that, at any moment, could turn into something more official. Something like a marriage. I myself am happily connected and while I’m not exactly making engagement chicken, I wouldn’t turn my nose up at a sparkler either.
With all these engagements flying in and Christmas coming (I expect several more happy phone calls after the 25th) I can’t help but start panicking about all the gifts I’m going to have to buy. I don’t have a clue about wedding etiquette and this includes the entire gift giving process. It’s stressful. In fact, the best thing I learned this summer is that you technically have ONE WHOLE YEAR to give a couple their wedding gift. Talk about taking the pressure off.
It’s ironic that now that I own a lingerie boutique I find myself giddily helping people with wedding shower and bachlorlette gifts all the time. Given my gift buying paranoia, I’m actually pretty great at helping people find things.
Curious? Here’s a brief albeit incomplete overview of what Meredith and I may suggest to you as the perfect gift.
New from Two’s Company is their rather brilliant Bridal Coverup. While I typically shy away from articles of clothing with the word “Bride” written on them, I’m totally enamored with the concept of this button up shirt. It’s designed to be worn by the bride while she gets her hair and makeup done virtually eliminating the threat of foundation, hairspray, and/or booze marring her million dollar dress. When she’s done, she simply unbuttons her cover up and heads out to get married. Genius. $50
The 100% silk cami and matching boythong from Mary Green is more for after the wedding and is a best seller for us namely because its obviously going to be a hit with whomever you give it to. It’s cut beautifully and appeals to conservative and risque brides alike. Sultry black is the most popular but we have it in a plethora of hues depending on the season and on how fast any particular color sells out. Cami $42, boythong $24
Another favorite from Mary Green is her insanely cute retro inspired teddy. If you’ve read or seen anything fashion related this year , you know that the one piece look is really hot right now, so this will be a sure fire hit with the bride. We just received the pink and black combo shown below, but also carry it in black with black lace. $68.
Eberjey’s India Retro Chemise is by far our best selling chemise mostly due the fact that it fits just about everyone. The stretch lace top gives excellent support even for larger busts and the super soft bottom is flattering on the hips. $70.
These are just a few of the options Forty Winks offers its bridal gift seekers. We carry gorgeous silk pieces from newcomer La Fee Verte, signature lace bralettes and undies from Belabumbum, and sheer lace chemises from Fleur’t.
So while we can’t help you choose between a salad bowl or a set of potholders, we promise we’ll help you find the perfect lingerie for all the brides in your life.

Cover your legs…or at least your knees…
While I‘ve been itching to break out the leggings and tights since mid July, the fact that temperatures hovered around one million degrees for most of the summer, forced me to reluctantly don a sundress and painfully expose what my friends liken to the legs of an albino chicken.
And then came Fall. The season for me. The season that allows me to reasonably hide my alabaster legs under layers of Lycra. Phew.
In honor of this fine time of year, I’m going to give you the low down on the tights and knee socks that flooded into Forty Winks over the past week.
The onslaught starts with the tried and true Spanx Tight End Tights. As the name suggests, these keep your tummy, thighs, and rear in check with a comfortable (they really are) reinforced panel system on top, and opaque color on the legs. Obviously we’re stocking black, but we also have charcoal gray, nutmeg brown and dusty purple. Also from Spanx and on our shelves, are Convertible Tights (black footless tights that you can tuck under your heels if the spirit moves) and Super Shaping Hosiery in nude and black (even tighter shapers ).
Next up is Pretty Polly a British company debuting in the US for the first time this season. A box as big as my apartment arrived Friday filled with all sorts of funky tights, hosiery, thigh highs, and knee socks. As I’ve little time to deal with garters and their belts (sorry boyfriend), my favorite styles are the ones that make it easy on me and feature faux garters as pictured below. Love.
Then UPS walks in with Cervin. Straight from France, this hosiery line oozes effortless cool. With their lace topped stay-up stockings and gorgeously printed tights (see below), Cervin makes me feel like I’m straight out of some sort of Parisian cafe. And when you haven’t left the country since 2005, you take what you can get people.
So there you have it. A brief but thorough round up of your tights options here at Forty Winks. Come welcome Fall with me.
